3.5 TON MINI EXCAVATOR HYDRAULIC SOLUTION
Hydraulic Cylinder Package for Compact Excavators
A 3.5-ton mini excavator works in confined construction sites, landscaping projects, utility installation, road maintenance and light demolition. Although the machine is compact, its hydraulic cylinders must withstand frequent load changes, repeated digging cycles, side loads, vibration and exposure to dust, mud and moisture.
WEITAI supplies hydraulic cylinder solutions for 3.5-ton mini excavators, including the boom cylinder, arm cylinder, bucket cylinder, dozer blade cylinder and boom swing cylinder. Each cylinder can be developed according to the machine manufacturer’s drawings, installation dimensions, hydraulic pressure and operating requirements.
The solution is intended for mini excavator manufacturers, equipment brands, importers, aftermarket distributors and hydraulic component wholesalers looking for a reliable cylinder supply partner.
Hydraulic Cylinders Used on a 3.5-Ton Mini Excavator
Boom Cylinder
The boom cylinder provides the main lifting force for the excavator’s working equipment. It raises and lowers the boom while supporting the combined weight of the arm, bucket, attachment and excavated material.
On a compact excavator, the boom cylinder must deliver stable lifting force without making machine movement difficult to control. The cylinder is designed around the required bore diameter, rod diameter, stroke, mounting distance and operating pressure. The internal guiding structure helps maintain alignment during repeated extension and retraction, while the sealing system limits internal leakage and pressure loss.
Optional cushioning can be incorporated to reduce impact as the piston approaches the end of its stroke. This helps protect the cylinder, boom structure and connecting pins during fast operating cycles.
Arm Cylinder
The arm cylinder, also known as the stick cylinder, controls the inward and outward movement of the excavator arm. It has a direct influence on digging force, working reach and cycle speed.
Because the arm cylinder frequently operates under changing loads, both the piston rod and cylinder tube require sufficient strength and dimensional accuracy. WEITAI configures the cylinder according to the excavator’s linkage geometry and required digging performance. Particular attention is given to mounting position, retracted length, extended length and port orientation so that the cylinder can be installed without interference with the boom or hydraulic hoses.
A properly matched arm cylinder helps the excavator maintain smooth movement during trenching, grading and material handling.
Bucket Cylinder
The bucket cylinder controls bucket curling and dumping. It is exposed to high working loads when the bucket penetrates compacted soil, collects material or breaks through hard ground.
For this position, the cylinder must provide sufficient breakout force while responding accurately to operator input. The rod, piston, seals and mounting ends are selected to withstand frequent pressure changes and impact loading. Accurate machining of the cylinder bore and guiding components helps reduce uneven wear during continuous digging.
The bucket cylinder can be adapted to different bucket linkage designs and attachments. For OEM projects, WEITAI manufactures according to the customer’s drawings and specified mounting dimensions. For replacement supply, cylinder dimensions and connection details can be checked against samples or technical data.
Dozer Blade Cylinder
The dozer blade cylinder raises and lowers the front blade used for grading, backfilling and stabilizing the excavator during digging.
Unlike the main digging cylinders, the blade cylinder is installed close to the ground and is regularly exposed to mud, stones, water and other contaminants. Its compact mounting space also requires careful control of the closed length, stroke and oil-port position.
The cylinder design considers both pushing force and the external conditions around the undercarriage. Suitable rod surface treatment, sealing and wiper arrangements help protect the internal components. Correct mounting dimensions allow the blade to reach its intended lifting and lowering positions without creating interference or excessive joint loading.
Boom Swing Cylinder
The boom swing cylinder, sometimes called the boom offset cylinder, moves the boom to the left or right. This function allows a mini excavator to dig close to walls, fences, foundations and other obstacles without repeatedly repositioning the undercarriage.
The cylinder normally works within a restricted installation area near the boom base. Compact dimensions, accurate stroke control and correctly positioned mounting ends are therefore essential. The cylinder must also respond smoothly because abrupt movement can reduce digging accuracy in narrow working spaces.
WEITAI can adjust the cylinder configuration to match the machine’s boom swing angle, linkage arrangement and hose routing. This is particularly important for compact and zero-tail-swing excavators, where available space is limited.
Engineering Based on the Machine, Not a Generic Cylinder
A hydraulic cylinder for a 3.5-ton excavator should not be selected only by bore and stroke. The cylinder must match the machine structure and hydraulic circuit as a complete system.
For OEM development, the following information is reviewed before production:
-
Cylinder bore and piston rod diameter
-
Retracted and extended length
-
Effective stroke
-
Front and rear mounting types
-
Pin diameter and mounting width
-
Working and test pressure
-
Hydraulic port size, thread and orientation
-
Required push and pull force
-
Operating speed and cycle frequency
-
Cushioning requirements
-
Seal material and operating temperature
-
Surface treatment and corrosion protection
-
Paint color and identification requirements
This engineering process helps avoid common installation problems such as incorrect pin alignment, insufficient stroke, hose interference, unstable movement and premature seal wear.
WEITAI’s excavator cylinder platform covers compact through heavy-duty machines. The published excavator cylinder range includes a working pressure of 34 MPa, with dimensions configured according to the cylinder position and excavator class. Final specifications for a 3.5-ton model are confirmed from the customer’s technical drawings or an approved reference sample.

Materials and Manufacturing Control
Cylinder reliability depends on the quality of the tube, piston rod, seals, guiding elements, welded joints and machined mounting components.
WEITAI excavator cylinders use precision-machined components and controlled assembly processes. Piston rods are available with nickel-chromium composite plating to improve resistance to wear and corrosion. Induction hardening can provide a hard external surface while retaining the toughness required to resist bending and impact.
The sealing and guiding system is selected according to pressure, operating speed, temperature and field conditions. Wear rings support the piston and rod, helping limit metal contact and uneven seal loading. Where required, cushioning structures reduce end-of-stroke impact and improve operating smoothness.
Port position, mounting dimensions and welded structures are checked against approved drawings. Completed cylinders are tested for pressure holding, leakage and movement before shipment.
OEM Cylinder Development
For mini excavator manufacturers, WEITAI can develop an individual cylinder or a complete matched package for the boom, arm, bucket, blade and boom swing functions.
Development can begin from:
-
Customer drawings
-
2D or 3D technical data
-
Existing cylinder samples
-
Machine installation dimensions
-
Target force and hydraulic pressure
-
Current product improvement requirements
Before serial production, dimensions, materials, sealing arrangements and performance requirements are confirmed with the customer. Prototype cylinders can then be evaluated on the machine for installation, stroke, movement speed, pressure stability and operating performance.
This approach is suitable for new mini excavator projects as well as cylinder localization, supplier replacement and product upgrading.
Supply Support for Distributors and Wholesalers
Hydraulic component distributors often serve several mini excavator brands and need clear product identification, consistent dimensions and dependable repeat supply.
WEITAI supports B2B wholesalers with OEM-reference matching and customized replacement cylinders. To identify the correct unit, buyers can provide the excavator model, cylinder position, original part reference, nameplate information, technical drawing or clear dimensional measurements.
For replacement projects, the following details should be confirmed:
-
Excavator brand and model
-
Boom, arm, bucket, blade or swing position
-
Pin-to-pin closed length
-
Stroke
-
Bore and rod diameter
-
Mounting-end dimensions
-
